If you are a Map Reader you will know that it is an acquired skill. To be able to read a map well and plan a detailed route takes time and practice. Some love it whilst others dislike it intensely. Like it or not once you have mastered the art of Map reading it can be quite rewarding and satisfying to plan your required route to your chosen. destination. There are however drawbacks to route planning by this method. As we are all too well aware the route we have planned to take is not always available to be taken, and most maps do not have the details of Town or City one way systems shown. Also diversions due to roadworks, traffic accidents etc, which cause unforeseen and unexpected delays do not help. Of course if you have a passenger with you who happens to be an Ace map reader you won't have any problems. If however you are driving solo when the unexpected detour or blockage occurs you can have problems. First of all you need to find somewhere to stop in safety, not always as easy as it sounds, then you need to be able to locate your position at that particular moment in time, not always as simple as one might think especially if one happens to be in a featureless part of the landscape. Then the diversion has to be planned and a new route worked out.
Compare this to using GPS Navigation.
At the start of the journey key in the destination, the type of roads you prefer to use, select the quickest or shortest route and the clever little GPS works it all out for you. If you come across diversions, blocked routes etc, the GPS will re calculate your route for you on the fly. Of course the GPS also has its drawbacks, it is only as good as the information that has been uploaded to it so on occasions you could well find yourself directed to turn up a dirt track that is not even suitable for mountain goats never mind vehicles. All in all though the GPS these days are extremely reliable and a quick and easy way to find your way to your desired destination. They are also much safer than trying to read a map as you drive along, they give both visual and audible indications of distance to and direction of turn. No need to keep looking down to see where you are. A vast improvement over the old map reading system and carrying multiple A-Z maps around. One small device now covers the entire country with add on maps available for other countries too. No longer a novelty or a new gadget, they are fast becoming a standard and essential part of motoring equipment for the driver who makes trips to hitherto unknown destinations. Expensive when they first came out, as are most new electronic items they have now come down to an affordable price. There are a wide range of GPS available, something to suit everyone. iPod the Bigger Picture and Sound
Have you ever wanted to view something on your iPod much larger than it is? Or to listen to some of the music on your iPod at a higher volume. Now you can do both.thanks to Philips, with the Philips Universal Remote Control for iPod together with an iPod Dock. The remote control has a back lit screen for easy viewing of the menu, libraries and playlists on your iPod from just about anywhere within your home. It works through walls, ceilings etc. and controls up to 6 devices, your iPod plus TV, DVD Player, VCR, cable and satellite systems. As with most devices these days it comes with a Wizard set-up guide to guide you through the set up process. If like me you have several different devices which are remote controlled you will find one of these invaluable, no more picking up the wrong remote to start a recording and then missing the start of what you wanted to record. No control is all here in one place at your fingertips. The iPod Dock, as with most docking systems allows you to charge your iPod whilst you use it, leave it in the Docking Cradle and connect it to your Stereo System or powered speakers via a 3.5mm Audio out cable to hear your music out loud. There is also an S Video out connection which allows you to connect to a TV so that you can share your Video Library on a larger screen and don't forget whilst doing all this it is charging your iPod for when you go mobile with it. All in all a handy affordable solution to the Bigger Picture and Sound problem. I hope you find this interesting and perhaps it will resolve a problem for you. If you would like to know more about the Philips Universal Remote Control for iPod with iPod Dock then please just click the link and pay us a visit. Thank you for your time.

Mobile Entertainment Systems.
Hi, love them or hate them they are with us to stay. Here are a couple of pictures to illustrate the things I am talking about. On the right we have a picture of a Portable DVD Player for use within the car and if like me you have ever embarked upon a long road trip with the family you will know what a blessing they can be. When you hear those immortal words "Are we nearly there yet ?" within a few minutes of setting off you know you are in for a long ordeal. Children are easily and quickly bored. What a BLESSING to be able to provide something to distract them and keep them quiet whilst you concentrate on where you are going and how to get there without having to be a referee for the arguments going on in the back seat. In addition because it is removable media you can be selective as to the material you provide for them to watch. No nasty surprises as to content.
On the left we have a Portable Video Player for in car use. Once again it has all the same benefits as the Portable DVD Player with the added benefit that you can use your previous collection of Videos.
There are in addition to these, Portable TVs, MP3 players, iPod etc.
These kinds of Portable Media come in a variety of styles and mountings. If you are interested in this kind of Portable Media then you may find a visit to http://www.bestmobileentertainment.com of benefit. If you don't love them already I am sure you will once you have one in te car with the children for that long journey.
